Each October, close to 1,000 vino lovers come together at downtown’s Riverfront Park to indulge in the annual Riverwalk Wine Festival. The $25-per-ticket event invites you to sip and stroll your way along the banks of the Alabama River amid autumn’s cooler breezes and features tastings from more than 100 wineries.
Seasoned wine drinkers praise the variety, and if you’re a newbie when it comes to wine, in addition to tasting a diverse selection so you can see what tickles your taste buds, you’ll have the chance to talk to winemakers and other experts who graciously share their knowledge and wine-choosing and tasting expertise.
If you like some of the varieties you sample, you can take them home for less than usual. Local wine shops are on hand with discounts on select bottles. You’ll also take home a commemorative wine glass.
Other draws include delish bites from area restaurants and live music, making the event a great way to spend a fall Saturday with friends.
And if you feel you’ve over-sampled, then stay right nearby. The Renaissance often offers discounted room rates for Wine Festival ticket holders.
